Founded in 2018, Birth In Color RVA is a birth, policy, and advocacy nonprofit working towards better outcomes in maternal health and reproductive justice for women of color. The maternal mortality rates in the United States are alarming; Black women are three times more likely to die due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth.
Birth In Color RVA strives to empower parents, providing doula services, childbirth education, newborn care classes, and postpartum support boxes, and even working with fathers to ensure that they feel connected and informed throughout the birthing process. To date, they’ve served over 450 women, certified parents in CPR training, and provided racial bias training for more than 200 healthcare workers. Most recently, they’ve extended their outreach to Lynchburg.
